From ABC News, police stated that 39-year-old Jennifer Lawson was hit by a truck as she was attempting to take her baby out of her minivan. The accident occurred Feb. 24 in Arlington across the street from Nottingham Elementary School on Little Falls Road. Lawson was in critical condition after being hit. It is reported that she died around 5:30 p.m. from her severe injuries. Her infant was not harmed in the accident. Lawson lived only a few blocks from where the accident took place. Her pastor of the Presbyterian church she attended said that her death was a great loss.
The police also reported that the driver of the truck remained at the scene until help arrived. Families in the area have been devastated by the news of Lawson’s death. Many in the neighborhood say that the street is notorious for fast drivers. Since parking is permitted on both sides of the street, the actual roadway is quite narrow. According to Jim Toronto, a 30 year resident of the locality, the community has tried numerous times to put safety precautions and improvements into place on that section of Little Falls Road. It is uncertain whether any such provisions will be passed into law.
