According to ABC News, 26-year-old Kaine Daniel Barnett was found guilty of two counts of dangerous driving that caused deaths. A Goulburn District Court jury made the decision today. In February 2012, the accident killed two people on the Hume Highway in the New South Wales Southern Highlands. Barnett will face a maximum of a 20 year incarceration when he is sentenced later this year.
The victims of the fatal truck accident were Sarah Frazer and tow-truck driver named Geoffrey Clark. As she was on her way to university in Wagga Wagga, Frazer’s car had broken down near Mittagong. While Clark and Frazer were in the process of loading the car onto the tow-truck, a courier truck collided into them. Both were killed instantly.
Peter Frazer, Sarah’s father, told reporters, The verdict is certainly the correct verdict so we are satisfied with that. He has also said that he regrets having to put Barnett and his family through suffering in this court process. He hopes that the verdict will send a message to distracted drivers as well.
